News from June

Beechtree was a hive of activity during the month of June.
The start of June saw some of the staff at Beechtree take part in the VHI women’s marathon, with all proceeds being donated to the Alzheimer’s society of Ireland. We had a fantastic day as the sun shone high in the sky. The 10k run/walk was trained for over the previous weeks and all ladies did themselves proud. We returned proudly with our medals to Beechtree, maybe not all will hang up their runners till next year, it appears some may have caught the running bug! We were delighted to raise € 865.27 for Alzheimer’s society of Ireland between our mini marathon, our Tea party and our fundraiser in SuperValu Ashbourne in May.

We continued our very popular monthly visits from Wooly Wards Mobile Farm, bringing lots of joy and happiness to our residents interacting with the small (and some not so small!) and cute animals.

Our Legion of Mary volunteers come in every week to spend time at Beechtree and our residents enjoy this very much. And as always thanks to Father Fagan who visits every week to say mass and prayers.

Arts & crafts continued this month with Maria coming in and spending a few afternoons in Beechtree, some beautiful cards and frames amongst other things were designed.
Deirdre our Reflexology Therapist comes in every week providing beautiful treatments for residents at Beechtree.
Siel Blue continue to come into us every Thursday morning helping keep our residents active with gentle exercise.

Mary our activities coordinator was busy in June organising a Market Day. Staff and family were asked to donate any items that they were willing to pass on, for example scarves, jewellery, bags, pictures. Any items that our residents liked were given to them as a gift but for staff and friends a friendly bartering system was set up and any donations made were donated to the Irish Cancer Society. It was a great success with €268.00 being raised

Beechtree like the rest of the world looked on with interest as the Soccer World Cup matches took place, we set up our own sweep here and John our lucky winner was delighted when his team won, Vive La France.

Beechtree had some great afternoons of music and dancing throughout June, with Olivia our accordion player, Billy McGee and Michael Dennis all performing. We had our own willing participants with Bernard and Maura joining in, to our own care assistant Chelsea all willing to sing a few verses.
Our mini bus was burning some rubber during the month of June. We had sunshine for the whole of the month and outings to Donabate beach, Argillian and even a trip to the local pub, got Beechtree out and about and soaked up the sunshine.
